Recommended Use: Take your recommended serving 20-30 minutes prior to training or when additional energy is needed. Do not exceed 2 servings in any given day. Individuals wishing to remove caffeine or stimulants from their diet should avoid this product. Why Rage? There are certain drinks that are synonymous with particular moments of the day: orange juice and milk with breakfast; Diet Coke with lunch; wine with dinner; beer with Happy Hour; coffee with, well, all day long. For the bodybuilder or athlete, it's no different. The marathoner knows about Gator-Ade. Bodybuilders take their shake after training like clockwork. Today's elite athletes are opting for more protein, fewer carbs and less fat in their diets. Consuming large quantities of protein per day (upwards of 500g/day), as pro bodybuilders do, is a practice that is quickly becoming the norm. Higher protein diets have even trickled down to the mainstream in the form of keto and other "low carb" diets. Whatever the reason, protein is here to stay. Protein is vital for preserving lean mass. This is especially true for bodybuilders who value lean mass above all, and endurance athletes who lose significant amounts of it during the competitive season. Maintaining, even gaining additional muscle, should be the priority of any serious athlete. Protein plays a key role by kick-starting protein synthesis, maintaining a positive nitrogen balance, and stopping the loss of amino acids from skeletal muscle. For the bodybuilder who trains intensely, more protein is better. Carbs, on the other hand, help refuel the body's valuable store of glycogen. Glycogen is the stored form of carbohydrates (fuel) in the body. Both aerobically and anaerobically-driven activities require glycogen to maintain performance. Studies have shown that pre-training meals can increase liver and muscle glycogen, thus improving overall performance. This meal should consist of both carbs and protein, researchers have found, and total no more than 300 calories. In another study examining short-term (less than 60 minutes) exercise of high intensity, researchers found that carbs in the form of glucose polymers, significantly increased total work capacity when administered 15 minutes prior to exercise. This shows that a pre-training shake consisting of 25-30g of carbs (glucose polymers) can benefit the strength-training athlete. Though carbs and protein are important components in the pre-training shake, the kinds of protein and carbs that are used can make all the difference. For instance, fructose should be avoided at all costs. Low GI carbs like fructose don't benefit the strength athlete who trains for 45 minutes at a time. For a long time, athletes have believed fructose to be superior pre-training carb, thinking that fructose use would result in lower serum insulin and glucose levels. Studies reveal the opposite. Glucose works just as well, if not better, for enhancing performance. More importantly, researchers believe that fructose can actually work against the athlete! Studies indicate that small doses of fructose before training can lead to diarrhea, cramps and mal-absorption. These are the last things you want to worry about when you're training to make serious gains. The problem is further exacerbated when you use fructose in conjunction with exercise. Studies report that the mal-absorption of fructose is made worse when exercise is involved. Fructose, unlike other carbs, is metabolized in the liver rather than the muscles directly, thus making it less utilizable. Since fructose is readily converted to liver glycogen, it is more suitable for long-term endurance activities, if any at all. If that weren't bad enough, fructose has even been shown in studies to be a less efficient source of fuel than glucose and glucose polymers. According to "Muscle & Fitness", fructose is not the best choice for bodybuilders because it is all too readily converted to fat; fructose more readily goes "toward the production of fatty acids and cholesterol than toward the production of glucose to fuel your muscles." Moreover, fructose, as "M&F" continues, can lead to gastrointestinal upset and vomiting in individuals even with doses as small as 50g per day! For all these reasons, the use of fructose in a pre-training shake is a terrible idea. In short, if you're looking to fuel intense workouts, science tells you that you should look for products containing glucose, dextrose and glucose polymers. With respect to protein, there are a number of proteins available to the athlete including soy, egg, whey and casein. While each has its own array of unique benefits, not all is suitable for a pre-training shake. To derive maximum benefits from a pre-training shake, the protein must be a "fast-acting" one. In other words, this protein must have the ability to be digested quickly and absorbed rapidly; it must prime the body for protein synthesis right from the start. To do this, the protein source must be rich in the branched-chain amino (BCAA) acids leucine, isoleucine and valine, as well as glutamine. A tremendous body of research has shown the importance of BCAAs and glutamine for both the strength and endurance athlete. For all of these reasons, whey protein is the superlative choice. Whey travels through the GI system faster; it is more rapidly absorbed; and it promotes protein synthesis 68% better than casein. It has the correct amino acid profile needed for optimal benefits. For years now, pre-training shakes have been available to the masses. Taking into account the tremendous body of new research out there, Universal Nutrition set out to build a better mousetrap. While some supplement companies might tell you, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," Universal Nutrition believes a "fix" was absolutely necessary. To do so, Universal would have to ignore all that came before; it would essentially have to start from scratch. The end result was a powerful new product called Rage. When it comes to protein, selecting the type is easy. Choosing the specific brand of whey protein is much more difficult. To produce the finest supplement, Universal Nutrition painstakingly tested over a dozen of the top whey proteins in the world (the best whey proteins come from the U.S., Europe and Australia/New Zealand). After months of study, they selected the whey protein which had the highest bioavailability (BV) score and which had the ability to reach muscles faster. This special whey protein undergoes a special, proprietary two-step filtration process utilizing the latest technology in micro- and ultrafiltration. Just as importantly, this whey protein is ion-exchange-free. By now, you've heard of the benefits of having protein fractions like immunoglobulins, BSA, glycomacropeptides, and lactoferrin intact. By using only filtrated whey, you can be sure each serving of Rage contains these valuable fractions. Ion-exchange whey, as you know, loses these fractions due to its harsh manufacturing processes. With the protein choice isolated for Rage, the R&D team went about testing various carb matrices. From the abundance of research, the team knew that this carb matrix had to exhibit the following characteristics: (1) rapid gastric emptying and (2) quick absorption. They also knew that they had to avoid fructose at all costs. Furthermore, in an ideal pre-training carb drink, the goal should be to curb glycemic response (a factor more important for the endurance athlete rather than the strength athlete). That's why fructose, with a lower glycemic index score, has been traditionally used in sports drinks. However, the studies cited earlier show that fructose is not the best choice for the athlete. Utilizing the latest research on the glycemic index, Universal found that by combining the right amounts of protein with specific carbs, the glycemic response of the carbs could be significantly blunted. With this new understanding, more beneficial carbs, those with higher GI scores, could be used for optimal results. After months of testing, Universal determined that a combination of glucose polymers and dextrose, in tandem with whey protein, would make the perfect pre-training shake base. With the protein/carb base formulated, determining the performance-enhancing herbal blend was the next step. Though conventional, the "thermogenic cocktail" consisting of caffeine and ephedrine has a proven track record. This potent duo can increase energy, performance, and thermogenesis while preserving lean mass. Any serious pre-training shake has to begin with guarana and ma-huang. Research has now shown that green tea extract, with its unique catechins, is a potent thermogenic in its own right. Additionally, green tea contains a potent ingredient called theophylline, an ingredient commonly used in asthma medications and an adrenergic stimulant. Like caffeine (which is also found in green tea), theophylline is classified as a methylxanthine. Theophylline also exerts synergistic effects when added to the caffeine/ephedrine combo, potentiating the benefits of the two ingredients. While ginseng is a natural choice in any herbal energy blend, there's a big difference between Asian ginseng (panax) and Siberian ginseng (eleuthero). Panax ginseng is considered more of an "adaptogenic" herb, helping to regulate and normalize metabolism and immunity. Siberian ginseng, or eleutherococcus, while in the same family as panax ginseng, has some notable differences. While lacking the ginsenosides found in its Asian cousin, eleuthero contains eleutherosides. More importantly, eleuthero exerts a more profound performance-enhancing effect. Recent studies have shown that Siberian ginseng can increase human physical workload capacity. Sida cordifolia, like theophylline, has long been used to treat asthma. The plant stem contains alkaloids including ephedrine and pseudoephedrine. In addition to these alkaloids (which are present in greater amounts in ma-huang), sida cordifolia is a source of vasicinone, vasicine and vasicinol. In addition to its stimulatory effects, sida cordifolia has been documented to exert hypoglycemic effects, thus working in conjunction with the proprietary carb matrix found in Rage. Finally, Universal added citrus-based ingredients synephrine (from bitter orange) and citrus bioflavonoids. Synephrine is the active alkaloid found in the immature dried fruit of Citrus aurantium. Unlike ephedrine, synephrine selectively stimulates beta-3 cell receptors, those most associated with fat loss. Thanks to this selectivity, synephrine produces additional thermogenic and energy-producing effects without compounding ephedra's side effects which include increased heart rate, blood pressure, and jitteriness. Our citrus bioflavonoid complex consists of a wide variety of bioflavonoids which exert anti-oxidant properties. Another bioflavanoid, naringin, has been shown to extend the benefits of caffeine for a longer period of time. Naringin, found in the rinds of grapefruit, delays the breakdown of caffeine to paraxanthine (a caffeine metabolite which exerts no thermogenic effects when combined with ephedra). To the above herbal "Rage Mix", Universal has added key electrolytes, vitamins and minerals. The end result is the all-new Rage pre-training shake. So how does Rage stack up with the competition? The leading "orange" product contains only 7g of protein, or 25% of the serving. Rage, on the other hand, provides a whopping 15g of protein (32% of the serving). In other words, on a gram per gram basis, Rage gives you 30% more protein than the leading brand. 30% more! Plus, Rage's carb matrix is fructose-free, making it ideal for bodybuilders. Finally, Rage contains only 2% fat per serving while the competition is loaded with nearly 4%! In other words, the "leading" competition contains 66% more fat per serving. All of these facts should be of great interest to strength athletes. Finally, Rage contains only proven herbal ingredients. In short, Rage is about performance. But it's also about choice. You can have your Rage in three different flavors--sour green apple, orange and red berry. Rage contains the fastest-acting whey proteins in the world for the quickest uptake and utilization. It has a fructose-free carb matrix consisting of an ideal ratio of glucose polymers and dextrose. Its proprietary herbal blend contains only proven ingredients. Rage powers up training sessions like nothing else in the world--guaranteed! While delivering explosive energy, Rage also burns fat selectively while preserving lean mass. Quite frankly, it's not for everyone. As the most powerful pre-training shake now on the market, it should only be used by responsible adults who are serious about training. But if you've hit a plateau and are looking for the edge in the gym, look no further than Rage. Rage Tip: To enhance the overall effect of Rage, mix your serving into 12 oz. of grapefruit juice. In addition to hydrating you, grapefruit juice contains flavonoids like naringin which can prolong the duration of Rage's performance-enhancing effects. The Answer To Your Prayers: Cellulite-Busting Tone 'N Tighten Cellulite is not a disease but an anatomical condition that can be corrected. For many suffering from this embarrassing condition, the proper nutritional foundation can offer help in alleviating this common, dimpled dilemma. Tone 'N Tighten contains the right combination of herbs and nutrients designed to burn fat and increase thermogenesis (metabolism). Reducing body fat is the first line of defense against cellulite. Extra flab puts unnecessary stress on the connective tissues which form cellulite. Tone 'N Tighten also contains unique ingredients designed to support your liver and maximize its working efficiency (the liver plays a central role in the formation of cellulite). These same ingredients act as fat-emulsifiers, essentially keeping your liver clean and ridding your body of excess fatty acids. Plus, Tone 'N Tighten has a complete formula designed to detoxify your system, promote regularity and reduce extra water weight. These are all important steps you need to take to remove cellulite once and for all! More specifically, here's how Tone 'N Tighten can help you: 1. Fat-Emulsifying Lipotropics: Choline, Inositol & Betaine HCl A lipotropic nutrient is one that promotes or encourages the export of fat from the liver. Lipotropics are necessary for the maintenance of a healthy liver as well as burning the exported fat for additional energy. Without lipotropics such as choline, inositol and betaine HCl, fats and bile can become trapped in the liver, causing severe problems such as cirrhosis and blocking fat metabolism. Choline is essential for fat metabolism. Choline functions as a methyl donor and it is required for proper liver function. Like inositol, choline is a lipotropic. Inositol exerts lipotropic effects as well. An "unofficial" member of the B vitamins, inositol has even been shown to relieve depression and panic attacks. Betaine HCl has also been widely used as an aid to digestion, specifically protein digestion. 2. Metabolism-Enhancing Thermogenics & Fat Burners: Cayenne & Carnitine Unlike caffeine (guarana, kola nut, coffee) and ephedra (mahuang), cayenne is a powerful but stimulant-free thermogenic ingredient. A thermogenic ingredient is one that has the ability to raise the body's core temperature, and thus resting metabolism. Cayenne pepper or Capsicum frutescens is an annual shrub indigenous to tropical America. With its active ingredient capsaicin, cayenne is an excellent thermogenic agent which safely encourages fat burning. L-carnitine, a vitamin-like compound synthesized from the amino acid lysine, is essential to any weight-loss regimen because it is responsible for the transport of fatty acids into the cell's mitochondria. Once there, fats are burned for energy. A deficiency in carnitine can lead to decreased fatty acid concentrations in the mitochondria and lead to reduced energy production. In addition, carnitine plays a key role in the conversion of keto-acid analogues of the branched chain amino acids valine, leucine and isoleucine, which is extremely important during dieting and exercise. Carnitine promotes a healthy heart, can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels and increase physical performance. Carnitine has been shown to improve cardiovascular performance in both athletes and normal subjects through improved energy metabolism. 3. Blood-Sugar Management: Chromium Picolinate Chromium helps manage weight by affecting blood sugar control mechanisms. Through poor diet and stress, many individuals experience hypoglycemia and even diabetes. Obesity is strongly linked to blood sugar imbalances--in obesity, the body experiences a decreased sensitivity to insulin. Increasing insulin sensitivity results in better blood sugar control and weight loss. Chromium works alongside insulin in promoting the uptake of glucose into the cells--without it, insulin's action is blocked and blood sugar levels rise. Chromium can also lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in non-diabetic individuals. 4. Water-Weight Management & Internal Cleansing: Burdock & Uva Ursi Burdock (Arctium lappa L.) can be found as far as Europe and Northern Asia. Nutritional remedies employ burdock as a safe diuretic and as a source of dietary fiber. In addition to these functions, burdock is also known as one of the foremost detoxifying herbs in both Western and Eastern herbal medicine. Active ingredients include inulin, polyphenolic acids, and non-hydroxy acids. A low-growing evergreen shrub, bearberry (Uva ursi) is native to the northern hemisphere from Asia to the United States. Traditionally used as a tonic for maintaining a healthy urinary tract system, uva ursi is also used as a gentle diuretic today. In fact, uva ursi is still used as a component to many OTC (over-the-counter) diuretic preparations. The flavonoid, isoquercetin, and the terpenoid, ursolic acid, are responsible for the herb's gentle diuretic effects. 5. Regularity & Diuresis: Damiana An herb native to Mexico and southern California, damiana has been traditionally taken as a tonic and restorative for the nervous system. Today, it's also used as a mild laxative for promoting regularity and as a mild diuretic for ridding the body of excess water weight. 6. PMS: Vitamin B6 Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine is important for the formation of proteins and structural compounds, chemical transmitters in the nervous system, red blood cells and prostaglandins. It also plays a key role in maintaining hormonal balance. Studies indicate that low levels of B6 can contribute to osteoporosis as a result of an increase in homocysteine. In addition, numerous double-blind clinical trials have revealed pyridoxine's effectiveness in relieving PMS symptoms. 7. Bone Loss: Calcium As women age, particularly after menopause, bone loss and degradation become an important issue. Even for younger women, calcium intake can be of concern. Each serving of Tone 'N Tighten provides 360mg or 36% of the RDA for calcium.
